Sympathy
Kiladangan GAA Club were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Alice Kelly.
Alice was the very definition of a Laochra Gael – a great servant of the club whose dedication and commitment to Kiladangan GAA spanned many decades.
Born a Kilruane MacDonaghs woman from Ballythomas Ardcroney, once she married Paddy Kelly, she was consumed by Kiladangan GAA, such was her late husband’s passion for the club.
Alice’s contribution to Kiladangan was immense. Year on year, she washed the club jerseys, always very particular and ensuring they were kept in excellent order so that every team took to the field with pride. She also ran the club’s catering for many years – her soup and sandwiches were famous among players and supporters alike, especially during the cold winter months of training.
A talented and creative woman, Alice also sewed materials for the club flags and banners, helping to keep the Kiladangan colours flying proudly at every opportunity.
Alice was a very warm and lovely lady, always friendly, welcoming and kind to everyone she met. She was hugely popular throughout the parish and beyond, known for her generosity, good humour and community spirit.
Her selfless work and dedication reflected everything that is good about the GAA – service, pride, and a deep sense of belonging.
Alice will be greatly missed by all who knew her in Kiladangan and beyond. We extend our deepest sympathy to her son Eamonn, daughters Noreen, Bríd and Ailish, siblings, in laws, her grandchildren, extended family and many friends.
